Tavli is a game for two players and is played with 30 draughts and two craps in a shallow wooden box that opens like a diptych. It is spread all over the world with various names like backgammon, tric-trac, tavoliere, bretspiele etc.
Backgammon is the traditional game for generations of men in cafes all over Greece, but the amazing is that this game becomes famous in every new generation and is played by boys and girls in haunts of students and young people, in places of vacations and of course in the houses. The Greek tavli is played in three basic games, "doors", "plakoto" and "go", which are repeated circularly, usually in rounds of odd winning games, according the time that the players have. The classic one is tavli in 7 winning games.
The game, in other countries except for Greece, is known as backgammon, which has come from the English back - game, because when you heat a draught, it has to go back at its base. We have to add that in other countries, they do not play the other variants of games in "tavli" and that they play only the game that Greeks call "doors", with the extra rule of "double", which makes the game more gambling.
